Strength Training is commonly recommended by Doctors, Physiotherapists and across mainstream media. There are a myriad of benefits, and it can be an important tool to help us maintain a healthy lifestyle. It can also be a daunting and sometimes confusing training modality, particularly when you're just starting out. There are lots of similar, but slightly different ways of manipulating the way that you load your body, and they will have different effects.
The fundamental principle behind why strength training works, is that applying mechanical loading to the body, stimulates adaptations within our cells - a principle called mechanotransduction. Adaptations are specific to the stimulus which is applied - The type of load (eg tension or compression), will affect the type of adaptation, as will the amount of load, the length of time the load is applied for and the speed at which it is applied. Depending on your desired outcomes, we'll adapt your training routine, manipulating the loading to give you the best results.
Following a generic programme may be fine for many people, but it may not be right for you. The aim of our training, is to build your confidence in a private environment, where you can learn to lift with correct technique and ask all the questions that you want, to help you understand why we're doing what we're doing.
